ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 to Start on May 30 Next Year
World’sgreatest event of cricket, ICC Cricket WorldCup 2019 is scheduled when England will host and face South Africa on May30, 2019 at The Oval, London. Like the format in New Zealand and Australia in1992, the 2019 edition will witness best 10 teams in the world to play head tohead in round-robin format to get the world champion.
Thetwo semifinals would be hosted at Edgbaston and Old Trafford on July 9 and 11respectively and final would be staged at Lord’s on July 14.
“Fansacross the world would enjoy the most adventurous and competitive cricket nextsummer as the best teams in the world would be playing head to head in theround-robin format to be finally crowned as World Champions,” said DavidRichardson, ICC Chief Executive.
Theschedule of World Cup is confirmed by the International Cricket Council whichwill be hosted in Wales and England from May 30 to July 14. The tournament willbe opening at The Oval in London on May 30 with England vs. South Africa.Australia will be defending on June 1 against Afghanistan, ICC World CupQualifier champions, in Bristol in a day/night match.
Reigningwinners of ICC Champions Trophy and former champions Pakistan will play theirfirst match against the Windies, who were two-time former champions and ICC World T20 winners at Trent Bridge,Nottingham on May 31.
The1983 and 2011 world champions, India, who also won ICC Champions Trophy inEngland and Wales in 2013, will start their campaign on June 5 at the HampshireBowl, Southampton, against South Africa. Their feature match against Pakistanwill be played in Manchester at Old Trafford on June 16.
Inthis 46-day tournament, the matches will be staged in 11 world-class venues.Each team will be playing the other once in the format of single league and twofour teams after 45 matches going to the semis.
Manchester’sOld Trafford will host 6 matches maximum, while Birmingham’s Edgbaston, Lord’sand The Oval in London, Hampshire Bowl in Southampton, and Trent Bridge inNottingham are allotted with 5 matches in each. Headingley in Leeds and CardiffWales stadium in Cardiff will be hosting 4 matches each and County GroundTaunton, County Ground Bristol, and the Riverside (Chester-le-Street) will bestaging 3 matches each.
